Degrees and Programs at “Cowboy U” University of Wyoming

The University of Wyoming appears in our ranking of the Top 50 Great College Deals: Master of Public Administration Online.

The mascot of the University of Wyoming is a cowboy, and the school does have a great agriculture department. In addition, though, there are plenty of programs in:

  • business
  • technology
  • education
  • science
  • medical training and other disciplines

The school presents traditional programs at its Laramie campus. It has several other locations across Wyoming so that people do not have to relocate to earn a degree. It also delivers courses:

  • through video conferencing

There are nine colleges at the university. The College of Agriculture awards a number of degrees including:

  • a Bachelor of Arts in Agriculture Business
  • a Bachelor of Arts in Agriculture Communications
  • a Master’s in Agriculture and Applied Economics
  • a Master’s in Agricultural Economics and Water Resources
  • a Bachelor’s in Agriculture Education

  • a Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral degree in Veterinary Sciences

There are degrees in the sciences such as:

The last one is doctoral-level degree is an interdisciplinary program. Biomedical Science is the study of human biology and how its functions are affected by issues in:

Communication and Journalism degrees are found in the College of Arts and Sciences. One of the degrees offered through this department is the Bachelor in Journalism. It is a 120 credit-hour program. Specializations include:

  • Visual and Multimedia

The Bachelor of Arts program requires 30 hours in department core courses plus:

  • Multimedia Messaging and Mass Communication Law
  • 15 hours of electives
  • an internship
  • six hours in a Human Culture class

The Bachelor of Science in Journalism major takes 30 hours in:

  • Online Journalism
  • Mass Communication Law
  • an internship

Students are also required to take either Physical and Natural World or Quantitative Reasoning as a six-to-eight-hour requisite.

Other degree areas in the College of Arts and Sciences are:

The MBA at the University of Wyoming requires a GPA greater than 3.0 to be admitted. It also requires proof of sufficient financial resources to complete the program. It contains 47 credit-hours and is offered in a cohort model. Besides the core classes, students take an Executive Leadership Program and an Experiential Learning Program. There are two available tracks:

  • General Management
  • Energy Management

The program is available as:

  • MBA/Pharm.D.
  • MBA/J.D.
  • MBA/International dual degree

The university also offers an online MBA which is a generalist degree. Courses earned in the Energy or General Management tracks do not apply to the program.

The university partners with the University of Washington School of Medicine to offer medical education. Students accepted into the program take their first year of studies at the University of Wyoming and then transfer to the Washington school to finish their degree program. The Doctoral degree is awarded through the Washington school.

There are several completely online programs at the University of Wyoming. There are also site-based programs using technology such as video conferencing to allow students to earn their degrees without relocating. Some of the programs are offered as hybrids. Some are presented as correspondence degree programs. Additionally, the school offers both undergraduate and graduate certificate programs.

About the University of Wyoming

This public land grant university in Laramie, Wyoming is called U-Dub by the locals. It was founded in 1886. Classes began in September of the following year. There were 42 men and women in the first class. The University of Wyoming is comprised of nine colleges:

University of Wyoming Application Requirements

Freshman applicants to the university complete the online Common Application and submit it along with the nonrefundable $40 application fee to the school. They must self-report their grades and arrange for an official high school transcript to be sent to the University of Wyoming. They must also arrange for the testing agency that administered the SAT or ACT to submit those official scores.

Graduate students apply to their degree program. Each department and degree has its own requisites. After the degree accepts the candidate, the university verifies the admission.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Undergraduate estimated cost-of-attendance is $20,828 per year. This includes tuition of $16,588 plus:

  • room and board

  • personal expenses

Graduate cost-of-attendance is $23,349.

Most students will need assistance to pay for their degree programs. They should complete a FAFSA form as soon as possible in the application process. The federal program awards:

These are based on financial need. Upon receiving their awards letter from the FAFSA program, students will have a better idea of their financial responsibility.

There are some limited state grants available, as well as university:

These are listed in the tuition/financial aid page of the university website. Additionally, private individuals, service organizations and corporations often fund scholarships that can be found through an Internet search. Loans should be the last option because graduating with debt is a heavy burden. Part-time employment or work-study are better options to pay for degree programs at the University of Wyoming.
