About Regent University

Regent University originated in August 1978. Founder and Southern Baptist televangelist Rev. Pat Robertson welcomed an inaugural class of 77 to Christian Broadcasting Network University. The next May, CBN first dedicated the Administration Building on today’s 70-acre, Georgian-style Virginia Beach campus. Accredited in 1984, it expanded with a School of Government in 1983 and School of Psychology & Counseling in 1988.

By 1997, the Board of Trustees had chosen the Regent University name and approved the initial online program, an Organizational Leadership MA. In 2000, Regent launched an eight-week semester alternative for working adults. Visited by Supreme Court Justice Alito in 2011, the School of Law entered the United States’ top 10 for Moot Court in 2015. It’s endowed for $95.3 million. Regent University  employs 922 faculty, including five Fulbright Scholars. It has 10,480 students at an 18:1 ratio online and on-site. It has 60+ clubs like Enactus.

Regent University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Colleges and Schools. Its first and only chancellor, Rev. Pat Robertson received the 1994 John Connor Humanitarian Service Award.

Regent University Application Requirements

Regent University is labeled “minimally difficult” by Peterson’s because 1,530 of the 1,887 Fall 2017 applicants were admitted. This is an 81 percent acceptance rate. First-year students age 22 or younger must complete a qualifying high school curriculum with four English units. Passing the General Equivalency Diploma test at 580 or higher would count.

Traditional freshmen present a mean GPA of 3.5 in grades 9-12. The Class of 2021 presented mid-range scores of 960 to 1180 on the SAT and 20 to 26 on the ACT. Older adults have test-optional admission with at least “C” grades in English and Math prerequisites. Undergrad transfers carry up to 90 credits with minimum 2.0 GPAs from regionally or ABHE-accredited colleges.

Visa recipients must exceed the 61 PTE, 90 TOEFL iBT, or 7.0 IELTS mark for English fluency. The Graduate Studies Division generally seeks bachelor’s graduates with 2.5 GPAs or better. Average GRE scores are 145 Verbal, 147 Quantitative, and 3.3 Analytical Writing.

The School of Law admits a median 154 LSAT mark and 3.55 GPA. The Ph.D. in Renewal Theology requires an ATS-accredited Master of Divinity and GPA over 3.5.

Regent University enforces a freshmen residential deadline of May 1st yearly. Most programs have easy rolling admission year-round to start every eight weeks though. For instance, the Ph.D. in Education currently has semester check-ins of:

For 2018-19, Regent University charged traditional undergrads $595 per credit or $8,490 each term full-time. Mandatory student service fees cost $700 per semester. Living at the Virginia Beach campus’ dorms adds $4,560 yearly. Meal plans for Regent Ordinary are $2,520. Budgets include:

Steep Juris Doctor tuition is $1,140 per credit and $102,600 total.
