1. AAUW Selected Professions Fellowships
Deadline: January 10th
Since 1970, the American Association of University Women has empowered women with fellowships. The $25,000 Selected Professions Fellowships is available to women pursuing specific careers. Candidates must be attending graduate school for one of a few STEM fields. These include:
- architecture
- computer/information science
- engineering
- mathematics/statistics.
Women of ethnic minority groups in their second year of an MBA also qualify. Eligible candidates must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. They must be enrolled full-time in traditional, classroom-based programs at an accredited graduate school.

2. Against the Grain Groundbreaker Scholarship
Deadline: April 15th
For $1,500 annually, Against the Grain Productions offers the Groundbreaker Scholarship. The scholarship is available to to Asian American graduate students. They must exhibit exemplary leadership skills and passion for blazing a trail for others to follow. Qualified applicants must be at least 50% Asian or Pacific Islander. They must be U.S. citizens, and attend an accredited U.S. graduate school. They must also attend graduate school for any major, and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5. 3. Aga Khan Foundation International Scholarship
Deadline: March 31st
The Aga Khan Foundation provides 50/50 loans and graduate school grants for graduate students under 30. Only graduate students from select Asian, Middle Eastern, and African countries are eligible. Eligible Asian countries include Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan. African countries include Madagascar, Uganda, Kenya, Egypt, Tanzania, and Mozambique. Syria is the only eligible Middle Eastern Country. They can use the funding to study in America, Canada, France, or the United Kingdom. Applicants must have genuine financial need. 4. Alpha Kappa Alpha Graduate Scholarships

The Alpha Kappa Alpha Educational Advancement Foundation awards both need-based and merit-based scholarships. The scholarships are for full-time graduate students at an accredited U.S. graduate school. To qualify, candidates must have completed at least one semester of their program. 5. American Library Association Fredrich G. Melcher Scholarship

6. Boren Fellowships for International Study

The Boren Fellowships provide scholarships through the National Security Education Program. These are full scholarships for graduate students studying abroad in regions critical to U.S. interests. These regions include Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East. The scholarships provide up to $24,000 for 12 weeks to 12 months of overseas study. Any major deemed critical to national security qualifies. After graduation students must work for the federal government for at least a year.

7. CaGIS Master’s Scholarship Awards

The Cartography and Geographic Information Society (CaGIS) offers two Master’s Scholarship Awards. Each year $1,500 goes to graduate students in a geographic information science master’s program. The Charles H. Bussmann Graduate Scholarship is distributed by the Marine Technology Society. The $2,500 scholarship goes to outstanding graduate students enrolled full-time in a marine master’s program. Marine technology, marine engineering, or marine science all qualify. The CIA Graduate Scholarship Program provides $18,000 to promising graduate students. The scholarship favors minority and disabled graduate students. Graduate students are eligible whether beginning the first or second year of any master’s. Qualified recipients must be U.S. citizens. They must take at least nine credits per semester. 39. NWSA Graduate Student Scholarships

The National Women’s Studies Association offers $1,000 Graduate Student Scholarships each year. Recipients must be current members. They must be conducting research or writing a master’s thesis in women’s studies this fall. Eligible candidates must attend an accredited U.S. institution. They must be actively involved in feminist service activities. Online application forms must be accompanied by a curriculum vitae. Applicants must submit two letters of recommendation, and a research proposal.

40. Pi Lambda Theta Graduate Scholar Award
Deadline: April 1st
The Pi Lambda Theta Graduate Scholar Award rewards master’s in education students with a $1,000 scholarship. The scholarship comes with a complimentary one-year membership. To apply, future teachers must have completed at least 12 graduate credits. They must obtain a minimum overall GPA of 3.5. They must display leadership potential, and significantly contribute to volunteer efforts. They must perform uniquely in any education discipline. Applications must include a resume and official transcript. A written statement, and two letters of recommendation must also be submitted.

41. Ralph W. Shrader Diversity Scholarship

The AFCEA International distributes the Ralph W. Shrader Diversity Scholarship annually. The scholarship provides $3,000 to full-time women and minority students. To qualify they must be pursuing a master’s degree in a STEM major. This includes computer science, forensics, engineering, information technology, mathematics, physics, and statistics. Qualified applicants must be in their second graduate semester. They must take at least two courses per term. They must attend an accredited four-year U.S. graduate school, and maintain an overall GPA of 3.5 or higher.

42. Rusty and Kay Moody Post-Graduate Scholarship
Deadline: December 1st
The Rusty and Kay Moody Post-Graduate Scholarship is awarded by the American Quarter Horse Association. This is a $5,000 two-year master’s degree scholarship. It is available for current members of the AQHA who are enrolled full or part-time. They must be attending an accredited U.S. graduate school. Applicants can declare any major, but all must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. They must also demonstrate a passion for horses. Master’s students could also qualify for the AQHA’s Career Path Scholarships. These are specific to animal science, journalism, or veterinary medicine majors.

43. Sonja B. Stefanadis Graduate Scholarship

In the amount of $1,000, the Sonja B. Stefanadis Graduate Scholarship is awarded annually. The scholarship is awarded by the Daughters of Penelope Foundation. The scholarship is for women pursuing a graduate degree in any academic field. They must be studying at an accredited U.S. graduate school. Eligible recipients must be active members in good standing for at least 24 months. They must submit a sealed academic transcript, and present two letters of recommendation. The Dorothy Lillian Quincey Memorial Scholarship is another scholarship offered for graduate students.

44. Soros Fellowships for New Americans

The Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans award this $20,000 scholarship. The scholarship is for children of immigrants, naturalized citizens, green card holders, and DACA kids. Applicants for this financial aid must be attending an accredited U.S. graduate school. Qualified applicants must have been born outside the United States. They must be under the age of 30. They must hold a four-year bachelor’s degree, and be entering the first or second year of full-time graduate studies. They must demonstrate creative initiative, and be committed to the values of the U.S. Constitution.

45. The Beinecke Scholarship Program
Deadline: February 19th
The Sperry and Hutchinson Company, funds the Beinecke Scholarship Program. The program selects around 20 college juniors each year who are motivated to pursue a master’s or Ph.D. degree. Their aspirations can be any major within the arts, humanities, and social sciences. Scholars receive $4,000 up front. They receive an additional $30,000 while attending an accredited graduate school. There’s also a Beinecke African Scholarship Program for African students. This is open to graduate students pursuing a master’s degree in wildlife ecology or conservation in the United States.

The Tom and Roberta Drewes Scholarship is awarded annually through the ALA. This $3,000 scholarship goes to U.S. or Canadian citizens who are pursuing a Master of Library Science. 47. Vazquez Pride in Health Scholarship

The Pride Foundation offers the Vazquez Pride in Health Scholarship to award $2,000 in financial support. This scholarship is for residents of Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington. The scholarship is for master’s or doctoral degree students in health-related fields. Students must major in medicine, public health, health science, health administration, or nursing. Other health related majors may qualify. They must attend an accredited U.S. graduate school. Priority is given to LGBTQ graduate students of color. Priority is also given to transgender/gender queer students, and graduate students planning to work in rural communities.

According to the NCES, average graduate school tuition costs $10,408 at public universities and $21,955 at private schools each year! This makes financial aid very important.
